Remember looking in your great grandmother’s old trunk at her old wedding dress, and dreaming of the day when you could wear it? Remember looking at the old black and white photos, and how romantic they all looked? Those days of yesteryear are now called vintage days to us. It was a time when things stood the test of time, including marriages. So, maybe that is why more brides and grooms are looking for vintage weddings nowadays. They can also bring a little piece of yesterday back to the older members of our family’s generations.

The Victorian era is named after Queen Victoria, who was the reigning queen of that time. She reigned in 1837 to 1901, and it was an era of progress and innovation. The Victorian era is reminiscent of elegance, classical times, and beauty. The women wore hoop skirts, corsets, cameos, and parasols. You can even ride in a horse drawn carriage to complete the vintage tradition at your wedding. Another idea that is reminiscent of this vintage time period, is having your wedding ceremony in the garden. Just like many people did during the Victorian era.

Another vintage wedding theme could be one that is set in the roaring 1920’s. This was the days of Humphrey Bogart and Greta Garbo. Ragtime and Jazz music was popular. During these times. The brides wore flapper dresses with a feather boa. They would wear a long strand pearl necklace and a chaplet headpiece would accent the dress. The grooms wore the pinstriped zoot suit, with an ascot tie. They also wore the traditional fedora hat with their wing tip shoes.

Another time period that is popular for weddings is the 1940’s. Many couples decided to get married, before the men went off overseas to World War II. The bride wore the slender satin dress with full length gloves. The grooms usually wore their army uniforms or a pin striped suit. They would dance to the swing or big band music of Nat King Cole or Fred Astaire. Then the men would leave for war.

Vintage weddings are popular because they remind us of days gone by, a time when people stuck it out through thick or thin. It was a simpler and happier time to some. It was a time that so many of us wish we could go back to. A vintage wedding will be a memorable wedding day for anyone, and will make wedding photos just like your grandparents had.
